🎥 What is Flipgrid?

Flipgrid is a social learning website that allows teachers to form video discussions and ask some questions by creating grids. Students on Flipgrid can respond the questions by using their camera or uploading a video that they recorded before and have a discussion atmosphere with their peers. The time period of students' answers can be short or long, from 15 seconds to five minutes, and it can be set by the teacher. Along with this feature, teachers are also able to be a grid moderator for his/her classroom, access a help center and some communities where they can interact with other teachers and educators from all around the world.

🎥 What is a grid?

A grid represents a classroom or the community of learners. Each grid for the teacher is a ''message board'' where they can put their questions that called ''topics'' and make their students respond these questions by uploading their discussion videos. Another great feature of grids is that they can be shared with various classes, Flipgrid users that are interested in specific topics and small groups. Speaking of topics, each grid can have limitless topics and each of these topics can include limitless responses. The more you have grids, the more you can have different responses! Topics can be customized as learners and educators are able to include images, attachments, files, videos for the teaching-learning process. Topics can be also text-based as they wish!

🎥 How to use Flipgrid in your Classroom? Some Tips

Creating a mixtape: Mixtapes in Flipgrid create collections of videos from various topics for you. Teachers who use Flipgrid in their classroom, are able to select their students video & mix them and add these videos to the mixtape, in this way they can share the mixtape with their classroom. Mixtape is also can be used to save and preserve classroom memories, fun experiences and teaching-learning process from various topics by the teacher. Students can recall and study what they've learned thanks to the mixtape.

Improving language skills & Increasing students' attendance: Teachers from all around the world can share various discussions based on different topics and collaborate with other teachers. Thanks to the collaborative feature, students are able to practice their language skills with different people and improve their language process. Students can also build conversations, post & study the topics that they are learning and develop their language skills with other students, not only with their peers in their classroom! Speaking of students, another great feature that makes Flipgrid a great tool is that making all students participate in their classroom and ensuring their constant accessibility.

🎥 My Own Experience with Flipgrid

My experience on Flipgrid was great as I was able to create one of the hot topics on the Internet: Grammar vs. Speaking! As a student who suffered from too much Grammar in my education life, I hoped to create a discussion atmosphere where we can share & exchange our opinions with each other and feel free to make comments on the topic! I aimed to create this environment as I wanted to make my students & learners feel comfortable to discuss the topic and also confident in themselves & their discussion skills. Of course, by creating the discussion topic, I aimed to show the importance of listening & speaking for learning progress. Because I know that English grammar is seen as the solution and 'the way' for teaching English, I wanted to be the light of this dark mindset and show that grammar is not enough for teaching-learning progress. There should be a room for speaking & listening skills in every place!
